Which clean water pump suits your situation?

Clean and lightly contaminated water is water without coarse solids: rainwater, groundwater, pool water or the water from a flooded cellar. Here the pump does not need to pass large lumps, but it does need to drain down as far as possible and often to switch automatically.

What to look for

  • How dry it has to get. An ordinary submersible pump leaves a few centimetres of water. If the floor has to be mop-dry, you need a flat-suction pump; those go down to about 2 mm.
  • Free passage. Up to roughly 10 mm is enough for clean and lightly contaminated water. If there is sand, silt or leaf litter in it, choose a dirty water pump with a wider passage.
  • Float or not. A pump with a float switches itself on and off and is the right choice for a cellar or pit you do not check daily. Where space is tight, choose a version with built-in level control or a separate electronic float.
  • Flow rate at your actual head. The figure on the box applies at zero back pressure. Add the height difference and the pipe losses and work it out with the pump calculator.
  • Material. Plastic and aluminium are light and good enough for clean water. For salt, brackish or chemically loaded water, choose stainless steel.

For an excavation or dewatering, see the construction pumps; for wastewater from a toilet or shower, the lifting stations. Not sure? Use the pump selector or call +31 85 210 08 97 and we will work it out with you.
