Collection: Dirty water pumps

Dirty water is water with solids in it. The free passage determines what the pump can handle without clogging: up to 10 mm for lightly contaminated water, 20 to 30 mm for sludge and leaves, 40 to 50 mm for coarser waste water. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

Which dirty water pump suits your situation?

Dirty water is water with solids in it: leaves, sand, sludge or textile fibres. A clean water pump jams on those or wears out within a season. With a dirty water pump you therefore look first at the free passage: the largest solids the pump lets through unhindered.

What to look at

  • Free passage. Up to 10 mm for lightly contaminated water, 20 to 30 mm for sludge and leaves, 40 to 50 mm for coarser waste water. If you are in between, choose the larger size: a blockage costs you more than a bigger pump.
  • Impeller. A vortex impeller works with a swirl and lets most of the dirt pass alongside the impeller, which reduces the chance of clogging. A multi-channel impeller is more efficient and reaches more pressure, but is more sensitive to fibres.
  • Flow rate and head together. A pump only delivers its maximum flow at zero back pressure. Work out your duty point with the pump calculator.
  • Material. Cast iron is robust and heavy; choose stainless steel for aggressive or salty water.

If it concerns waste water containing sewage from a toilet or shower, see sewage pumps or the lifting stations. In doubt? Use the pump selection tool or call +31 85 - 210 08 97; we will work it out with you.
