Simer 5 replaced by Simer 6: what's better?
Quick answer: the Pentair Simer 5 is no longer available. Its successor is the Simer 6: more powerful (6,000 l/h vs 4,300 l/h), with a built-in check valve, and it still pumps down to 2 mm dry. If you want automatic switching, choose the Simer 6S or the Simer 6 with CRAB float.

Thanks to the built-in check valve, the discharge line does not empty when the pump stops. This means the water in the hose does not flow back onto the floor you just pumped dry. For a pump that often switches on and off, this also prevents unnecessary switching.
Which Simer 6 should you choose?
Simer 6: manual
The direct replacement for the standard Simer 5. You place it, plug it in, and unplug it when the water is gone. Ideal for installers, roofers, and emergencies where you stay with the pump. Do not let it run dry for long periods.
Simer 6 + CRAB float: automatic, flexible
The Simer 6 with a separate electronic CRAB sensor. The pump switches itself on and off, and you can also use the sensor separately with another 230V pump. It’s the most affordable automatic solution and the replacement for the Simer 5 + CRAB.
Simer 6S: automatic, built-in
A built-in level control system switches the pump on from 7 mm of water. No separate sensor or cables, making it compact and ideal for a fixed setup where standing water can cause damage, such as a basement, lift pit, or stairwell.
Did you have the Simer 5 with electronic float? Then choose the Simer 6S or the Simer 6 + CRAB. Both work fully automatically.
What do you use a Simer 6 for?
- pumping water off a flat roof;
- drying out a flooded basement or crawl space;
- emptying swimming pools, pond liners, and tennis courts;
- sucking up drilling and cutting water during concrete work;
- as a bilge pump on a boat (freshwater).
Please note: the Simer is designed for clean to lightly contaminated water. For mud, sludge, or fibers, choose a dirty water pump with a large passage.
