Lightly polluted water submersible pumps
Lightly contaminated water – also known as greywater – is wastewater without faeces: water from the washing machine, shower, sink or kitchen, and drainage water with some sand or silt in it. These pumps have a larger free passage than clean water pumps, so that small solid particles can pass through without clogging.
What to consider when choosing
- Free passage — the largest particle the pump can handle. For greywater, 10 to 30 mm is common.
- Impeller type — a vortex impeller is less susceptible to clogging because most of the dirt is carried along the impeller.
- Float switch — for sumps and basements that need to empty themselves.
- Material — cast iron and stainless steel last longer than plastic for continuous use.
