When the medium attacks the pump
Chemical, salty or otherwise aggressive water calls for different materials. A standard pump in cast iron or plastic deteriorates quickly in such water: the impeller is eaten away, the shaft rusts, the seal lets go.
What to look at
- Material of the pump housing and impeller. Stainless steel or titanium, depending on the medium. See also the stainless steel pumps.
- Seal. A double mechanical seal, in silicon carbide for example, keeps the medium out of the motor.
- The medium itself. There is no such thing as generally "chemically resistant": it depends on the substance, the concentration and the temperature.
Call us before you order. This is the category where the wrong choice is most expensive, and where we prefer to go through the material resistance together with you and with the manufacturer. Tell us which substance it is, at which concentration and which temperature: +31 85 - 210 08 97 or via contact.
