Help! My Pentair Jung Pumpen submersible pump is not pumping?

You have just purchased one of our high-quality Pentair submersible pumps, you have installed the pump neatly according to the manual, and when you switch on the pump, nothing happens!

Air in the pump housing

This is because the water does not reach the impeller in the pump housing, as the air cannot escape from the pump housing when it is submerged. This can happen if the resistance at the pump outlet is too high, for example, due to a squashed fire hose, water pockets in the hose, or water in the pipe on the check valve. 

The solution 

With some submersible pumps, this problem is solved by a small valve/hole in the pump housing. However, this is not possible with Jung Pumpen submersible pumps because they almost always pump away dirty water with fibers from washing machines. The slightly contaminated water pumps (grey water) must always function reliably, even if the shaft may have been emptied for cleaning.

A small adjustment

With your Pentair Jung pump, you can easily make the adjustment yourself.  If you suffer from the above problem, drill a small hole in your pump housing. Through this hole, the air can escape the system and the water can enter. Some water will always splash out of the hole, this is not a problem: just keep pumping!
