The awkward part is that two systems exist side by side that look alike from a distance and do not fit one another. So first check which system you already have.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhat to look for\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGEKA or Storz.\u003c\/strong\u003e GEKA is the claw coupling used on garden and work hoses: two lugs that click together. Storz is the half-round bayonet coupling used on fire-service and construction hoses. They do not fit one another; an adapter is needed for that.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThread or hose tail.\u003c\/strong\u003e A coupling with a female or male thread screws onto the pump or onto pipework. A coupling with a hose tail slides into the hose and is secured with a hose clip. So decide first which side you are on.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFemale or male thread.\u003c\/strong\u003e This is the most commonly mis-ordered detail. If the thread sits on the outside of the part you are connecting to, you need a coupling with a female thread, and the other way round.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSize.\u003c\/strong\u003e Thread sizes are given in inches (1\", 1¼\", 1½\", 2\"), hose sizes in millimetres.
